Sit and Be Fit Launches Kickstarter Campaign

Spokane, December 7, 2015-Television host, Mary Ann Wilson, RN, creator of the nationally syndicated public television series, Sit and Be Fit, has launched a 30 day Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign to raise $250,000 for production of 20 new television episodes. The effort comes in the wake of the quickly changing landscape of the DVD sales industry. Wilson explains, “Typically we’ve funded Sit and Be Fit with DVD sales, but that income stream is collapsing and with it our ability to produce new programs.”

Sit and Be Fit, winner of 24 national media and health awards, has been airing on public television throughout the United States and Canada since 1987. The program, designed by Wilson and a team of physical therapists and health care professionals, features exercises that improve viewer’s functional fitness and encourage healthy aging. Wilson is known for her gentle approach to fitness and her technique has attracted viewers of all ages including young children.

Ron Santora, VP/Station Manager from WNED Buffalo/Totonto explains, “Sit and Be Fit has been a staple on WNED for years. It meets the needs of viewers who are challenged by more traditional exercise. That is why public broadcasting was created, to serve the underserved. Sit and Be Fit is a perfect example of quality television with a different voice.”

Sit and Be Fit is a 501(c)3 non profit organization with a mission to give everyone access to free media programming that helps them feel and function better. “We’re really a homegrown series so this grassroots approach to funding fits our model.” says Wilson.
